Eclair

Sabcobel_projectshoot_98

Eclair is a pastry company that specializes in producing high-quality pastries, cakes and desserts. The company has an ambition to become a market leader in Belgium, which is why it decided to realize a complete new building in 2022. The new building, realized by MG Real Estate, had to meet Eclair’s increased production needs and sustainability goals. An important part of the project was the refrigeration plant, responsible for storing and transporting the refrigerated products. Sabcobel, the experts in industrial refrigeration technology, took on the challenge of designing and installing an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly refrigeration plant.

The solution of the new building

Eclair’s new building, which opened in 2022, is a model of innovation and sustainability. Covering an area of 12,000 square meters, the building allows for larger and more efficient production, more spacious and better organized storage, and faster and safer distribution. The building is also equipped with solar panels, which provide part of the electricity, and an energy-efficient refrigeration plant, which is the core of the project. The refrigeration plant, which was designed and installed by Sabcobel, is one of the most advanced of its kind.

The plant uses two natural refrigerants, ammonia (NH₃) and carbon dioxide (CO₂). These refrigerants have a very low or zero impact on global warming and ozone depletion, unlike the synthetic refrigerants often used in the refrigeration industry. The plant consists of two circuits: a NH₃ circuit, which provides the cooling capacity, and a CO₂ circuit, which acts as an evaporative cold carrier

The plant has the following technical characteristics:

– Commissioning: 2021
– GWP (Global Warming Potential) = 0
– Refrigerant capacity NH₃: 800 kg
– Cooling capacity: 1500 kW
– Electric consumption: 174 MWh/year
– Full custom SCADA & PLC control (Siemens)

he installation offers several advantages for Eclair and the environment:

A higher performance, even at warm outdoor temperatures, thanks to the properties of NH₃. A higher reliability, thanks to the low refrigerant content and the simple technology of NH₃. A higher volumetric cold yield, thanks to the properties of CO₂. A more compact installation, thanks to the smaller piping and air coolers of CO₂. Lower electrical consumption, thanks to the lower stroke volume of the compressors and the lower circulation rate of the pumps of CO₂. Lower greenhouse gas emissions, thanks to the low or zero GWP of NH₃ and CO₂

Conclusion

Eclair is a pastry company that realized a new and sustainable location in 2022, with the help of MG Real Estate and Sabcobel.

The new building provides more space and capabilities for the production, storage and distribution of patisserie products. The building is also equipped with an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly refrigeration plant, which uses two natural refrigerants, NH₃ and CO₂.

This plant delivers high cooling capacity, high reliability, compact design, low electrical consumption and low greenhouse gas emissions. The installation is an example of how refrigeration technology can contribute to Eclair’s sustainability goals and the environment.
